SP-1 Project

Broadcast Server Case

SP-1 designed and built a rugged matchday broadcast server case, integrating networking, power, cooling and protected laptop storage into 1 portable system for rapid pitch-side deployment.

Client

Sportable Technologies, delivering real-time sports data and broadcast graphics systems.

Objective

Develop a rugged, portable broadcast server case that could support matchday data processing, networking and live broadcast graphics from a single deployable system. The system needed to replace an existing broadcast box setup with a more robust, organised and field-ready platform for pitch-side use.

Challenge

Matchday broadcast workflows rely on reliable data processing, stable connectivity and fast setup in live environments.

The existing setup required separate compute, networking, power and storage elements, increasing setup time, cable management issues and the risk of missing or damaged equipment.

The case needed to bring the key system components together in 1 protected unit while supporting rapid deployment, active cooling, external connectivity and safe transport between venues.

Solution

SP-1 engineered Atlas as a fully integrated broadcast server and networking case for matchday deployment.

The system combines mechanical design, internal mounting, power distribution, laptop storage, active cooling and external connectivity inside a rugged transportable enclosure. It was designed to protect critical hardware in transit while allowing operators to set up quickly and run key equipment directly from the case.

Key features included:

  • Rugged transport case for pitch-side and venue-to-venue deployment
  • Integrated server, networking and power layout
  • Secure mounting for switch and router hardware
  • Storage for 3 laptops, laptop chargers, mice and external power cable
  • In-case laptop operation for rapid setup and live use
  • Active cooling to support operation while closed
  • IP54 protection when closed
  • External Ethernet connectivity without opening the case
  • Grounded mains power inlet with locking IP65 connector
  • Internal power distribution
  • Safety protection with RCD and serviceable mains fuse
  • Wheels, telescopic handle and additional carry handles for transport
  • Compact design no larger than 630 x 390 x 300mm
  • Fully laden target weight under 16kg
  • Designed for reliable production and repeatable build quality

Outcome

The finished Atlas case gave Sportable a single, organised and repeatable system for transporting, protecting and deploying matchday broadcast equipment. By integrating compute, networking, power, cooling and storage into 1 rugged case, SP-1 reduced setup complexity and helped operators bring live data systems online quickly in demanding sports environments.
