SP-1 Project

Instant Network

Client

Vodafone Foundation, focused on delivering emergency connectivity to disaster zones and remote communities.

Objective

Design a portable, rapidly deployable system capable of creating a wide-area Mesh Wi-Fi network to provide immediate internet access in areas where infrastructure has been damaged or is non-existent.

Challenge

Emergency response teams and disaster relief zones require immediate connectivity over a large footprint. Traditional Wi-Fi solutions are often tethered to fixed power sources and struggle to cover wide areas without complex cabling. The client needed a solution that was flexible in its power requirements (vehicle or mains) and could extend coverage seamlessly without technical setup.

Solution

SP-1 engineered the "Instant WiFi" case, a self-contained connectivity hub designed for versatility and range. We integrated a high-performance 4G router with a firewall for security, connected to a system of three deployable Wi-Fi Access Points. The custom electrical engineering included dual-input power management, allowing the unit to run effectively from both standard AC mains and 12v DC vehicle power, ensuring operation even when the grid is down.

  • Create an instant, wide-area 4G Mesh Wi-Fi network
  • Dual power input (AC Mains and 12v DC) for vehicle or grid operation
  • Integrated high-speed 4G Router and security Firewall
  • Houses and powers 3 x deployable Wi-Fi Access Points
  • Rugged, weather-resistant casing for disaster zone deployment

Outcome

The Instant WiFi unit provided a vital communication lifeline for aid workers and affected communities. Its ability to run off a car battery and extend coverage via Mesh technology meant that reliable internet access could be established in minutes, regardless of the status of local infrastructure.
