100-Device Wearable Safety Charging Station

SP-1 designed and manufactured a freestanding charging, connectivity and monitoring station for 100 wearable safety devices used in construction environments.

Objective

Design a freestanding system to store, charge and manage up to 100 wearable safety devices from a single site-office charging station. The system needed to support daily device turnaround, continuous data collection and network monitoring, while remaining simple for site teams to use.

Challenge

Wearable safety devices are only useful if they are charged, connected and ready for use at the start of each shift.

Construction environments create a difficult operating context for device management. Equipment may be handled by multiple users, site offices can be cramped, and charging hundreds of individual devices with loose cables and consumer chargers quickly becomes unreliable and difficult to manage.

The client needed a robust, high-capacity charging station that could:

  • securely store up to 100 wearable safety devices
  • charge all devices from a single managed system
  • organise devices clearly for daily issue and return
  • support data collection and sync
  • provide reliable 4G and Wi-Fi connectivity
  • show live system and network status
  • withstand regular use in construction site environments
  • remain freestanding and movable for flexible deployment

Solution

SP-1 designed and manufactured a fully integrated wearable safety charging station.

The system combined custom metalwork, internal power distribution, USB charging, device bays, networking hardware and an embedded status display into 1 freestanding unit. The enclosure was designed to provide a durable physical structure while keeping the devices organised, accessible and protected during daily use.

Integrated USB charging circuits allowed the station to manage up to 100 wearable safety devices, while built-in 4G and Wi-Fi routing supported data upload and device connectivity from the site office. A custom OLED display, driven by bespoke code, provided real-time network and system status so users could quickly confirm the station was operating correctly.

Outcome

The finished charging station gave the client a reliable way to manage large fleets of wearable safety devices on construction sites. By combining storage, charging, connectivity and monitoring into 1 freestanding unit, SP-1 reduced cable clutter, simplified daily device management and helped ensure equipment was charged, connected and ready for use. The result was a scalable device-management platform that could support high-volume wearable safety deployments with less operational friction for site teams.
